MARCELA
PEREZ BARROS

Marcela Perez Barros is an accomplished four time EMMY -Award winning news anchor.  She is the current main anchor for Univision Houston 5 and 10PM newscasts. Marcela was voted Best Female Anchor by the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals and most recently she was honored as one of The Most Influential Latinos in Houston by the World Remmit Annual List.

 

She has covered crucial events such as the presidential elections in 2016 and 2020, the landfall and aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, and the Santa Fe High School mass shooting in 2018 among other groundbreaking coverages and stories where she also served as a communication bridge for the Hispanic community by performing simultaneous live translations during long pressers and breaking news.

 

Marcela was born in Barranquilla, Colombia where she graduated as a journalist and obtained her degree from Universidad del Norte. Her passion for journalism led her to work in Santiago de Chile and Bogota, where she was finalist in the II Ibero-American economic journalism contest for her work in the newspaper “La Republica”,

 

In 2015 she joined Univision as a reporter for the Chicago station and was transferred to Houston, Texas in 2017 where she currently resides with her husband Christian, son Leon and her dog Bella.
